Weekly miniBIOTA Update: June 11, 2026

Widespread cyanobacteria was recorded in the Seagrass Meadow, and mud crabs were later seen excavating coastal substrate. For now, the question is how that disturbance changes the meadow, not whether it fixes anything.

Around eight mangrove periwinkles were collected for the Marine Shore, and about 40 Eastern Melampus were introduced after two earlier individuals had been doing well so far. This is an introduction note, with persistence still to be seen.

Six true Mangrove Tree Crabs were introduced, with older crab identity context kept cautious. A few days later, they were seen climbing, feeding on fallen material and red mangrove, and moving through several biome edges.

Two large female field crickets were added to the Lowland Meadow. They appear to fit the existing field-cricket watch, but the identity stays broad for now.

Two male ridgeback sand grasshoppers had not been seen for about a week, while one female was still visible and feeding with one enlarged hind leg missing. The absence and injury both stay open questions.

Two buried Daggerblade Grass Shrimp were documented feeding on dead Eelgrass Isopods. It’s a clear scavenging observation, not a full diet story yet.
