A tiny shore fly in the Freshwater Lake and Lakeshore whose larvae mine the leaves of tapegrass (Vallisneria); Hydrellia formosa is the principal leaf-mining herbivore on eelgrass beds in Florida freshwater systems, creating visible serpentine mines in tapegrass leaves.
